Monopoly GO! is a free to play mobile game based on a beloved IP that has seen tremendous success since launch as the fastest mobile title to ever earn $3B USD. I joined the Monopoly GO! team at Scopely as a Lead Game Designer very early in the project’s development after the sudden closure of Backflip Studios.

PRODUCT OWNER

I was one of 4 product owners for Monopoly GO! and led the design of core user experience features, including location-based game levels, community chest and chance cards, go to jail, free parking, rolling doubles, passing go, the new user onboarding flow, connecting social accounts, and more. I worked directly with the studio GM and the team’s Creative Director to align on concepts for these features and then owned all aspects of their user experiences, from ideation to UI/UX to implementation, testing, feedback, and validation.

BRAND RELATABILITY

It was extremely important to me to design user experiences that fans of the original board game would appreciate and immediately connect with, since some elements of Monopoly GO! are a mild departure from core player expectations. I pushed for design choices that played into player expectations with surprise and delight. The combination of a memorable board game experience mixed with an all-new, socially competitive mobile game experience is key to Monopoly GO!’s success.

RECORD REVENUE

Monopoly GO! surpassed $3B in just over 18 months and will continue to break record numbers of players and revenue atop mobile charts for years to come.
