Madden NFL 18

Madden NFL 18 was an incredible year that I am tremendously proud of. I led the design and execution of a new online, social multiplayer mode that took the community by surprise and quickly became everyone’s favorite. I met dozens of fans at EA Play that year who told me MUT Squads was the most fun they had ever had playing Madden with their friends.
MAJOR FEATURE OWNER
Development began in a meeting with Senior Leadership who communicated three problems – the need for a new game mode, the need for more social gameplay moments, and the need to maximize the value players’ place in their collection. I solved all three with the game design for MUT Squads, a new social online mode where players combine their card collections to form the ultimate squad to complete online with. The response from players very early in development was overwhelmingly positive, both inside and outside the studio. I led the team through development, tuning and balance, and regularly scheduled testing and feedback sessions as we prepared to ship.
FEATURE DESIGN
In parallel to MUT Squads, I led the design of another Ultimate Team-specific gameplay mode that was more closely tied into the Competitive Gaming Division. This mode, called Weekend League, was a weekly qualifying tournament that rewarded competitive leaderboard points, making it very popular among competitive players. Both were considered very successful modes in Madden 18.
OUTSTANDING DESIGN AWARD
At the end of the Madden NFL 18 development cycle, I was recognized by my peers with an Outstanding Achievement in Design award that symbolizes the teamwork, commitment, and love that went into creating Madden 18.
